Staying in Kilkenny

Rooms have been reserved in the conference venue, the Rivercourt Hotel, in Kilkenny for conference participants. These rooms have been reserved until 8 May 2020. After this date any rooms that have not been booked and confirmed with credit card details will be released. Reservations may be done through the or by emailing Please quote the reference number: 401339 when making the booking either by phone or email. If booking directly on the hotel website  reference this number also or IUFRO forestry so that the agreed rate is applied. This should be done in the “special requests” section of the website.  Room prices in the Rivercourt hotel are €110/night (single standard), €120 (double/twin standard) and include breakfast. Please note also:

  • The conference will be held in the Rivercourt Hotel
  • Participants are responsible for booking their own accommodation; one may use other booking channels to find other accommodation options than the one above, but conference organisers cannot guarantee their availability and prices
  • June is a busy time in Kilkenny, please book your accommodation early

Travelling to Kilkenny

The main airport in Ireland is in Dublin. If you fly to Dublin, there are a number of ways to travel to Kilkenny from Dublin airport.

By bus (approximately 2.5 hours)

Two bus companies run direct services from Dublin Airport to Kilkenny (The closest stop to the conference venue is Kilkenny (Ormonde Road):  – route 717

Note if you are taking the Dublin Coach to Kilkenny you first take the 726 – N7 service and change at Red Cow Luas for the 600: M9 express.

Return bus tickets can be purchased for approximately €30.

By rail

There is a train from the centre of Dublin to Kilkenny (note there is no rail link in the airport). It is possible to get a bus to Heuston Station in the centre of Dublin. There you can travel by train directly to Kilkenny ( . Note Kilkenny is on the rail route to Waterford. Fares start from €29 if purchased in advance online.
